Thursday, March 29,2007 Marco Island Yacht Club at Noon 1400 North Collier Blvd. Marco Island, FL Guest Speaker: Tim Durham, Deputy Supervisor of Elections in Collier County The guest speaker will be Tim Durham, Deputy Supervisor of Elections in Collier County and recently returned from a tour in Iraq. He is an excellent speaker with a great story. His bio follows: After graduating from high school in 1976, Tim served 7 years in the active Army as a scout in 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division, and 101st Airborne Division. Following active duty, he joined the Army Reserve as a drill sergeant and attended Rutgers University, graduating in 1989. He left the Army in 1990 to attend law school at Florida State University, which he completed in 1993. Tim and Dawn moved to southwest Florida in 1999 and adopted their daughter Cheyenne that same year. After 9/11, feeling that he was still cable of serving and needed now more than ever, Tim enlisted into the Florida National Guard. He had been separated from the military for 15 years. Tim’s Guard unit was activated in August 2005. After a 3-month train-up as a Military Police unit, the 651st MP Co. was deployed to Camp Bucca, Iraq, for 11 months. Tim was a squad leader in the convoy platoon, whose mission it was to transport detainees throughout Iraq. He participated on over 100 missions and his platoon moved approximately 20,000 detainees over 20,000 miles on the road. Tim ran the platoon for three weeks while the platoon leader and platoon sergeant were on leave. During this time he led the largest single transfer of detainees in theater. He was award the Bronze Star for his meritorious service in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Tim works for the Supervisor of Elections.
