2006 June Officer of the Month Officer Andy Delgado:
On Monday, June 19th at approximately 9:40 p.m. Andy responded to a report of two men fighting on Marco Lake Drive. Once there, Andy found the two men fighting in the waters of Marco Lake. One man had the other in a headlock and was holding a fishing knife to the victim's throat. The victim was bleeding profusely from a wound to his neck and face. The man with the knife ignored several commands to drop the knife. This life-threatening scenario would justify the use of deadly force and Andy had to make a decision in a split second. He decided to utilize his Taser to release the victim. The suspect was taken in to custody while the victim received emergency medical services. He was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for his wounds. The 24-year-old suspect was charged with felony-aggravated battery. Officer Andy Delgado's experience, professionalism and courage are to be commended. |
